WHO WE ARE

FIST are Newcastle’s alt-punk spark-plugs. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for checking us out. We mix skate-punk speed with thrash riffs, ska grooves, and rap-driven hooks, and we balance it all with a very Aussie sense of humour. Think The Living End meets RHCP meets Turnstile.

ABOUT THE SONG

“What better thing to do on a hot summer’s day than snack on a nice refreshing cucumber? Well, that’s what FIST’s bass player was doing between quick bursts of punk...” – Sense Music Media

Tactical Error is us leaning into our fun side. It’s a bass-driven indie-punk bouncer that owes as much to the dancefloor as it does the mosh pit. From the first riff it keeps moving, with backup vocals doubling the solo just because it cracked us up.

Lyrically it’s temptation, paranoia, and bad decisions wrapped up with a cheeky grin. We throw Hannibal Lecter jokes next to late-night romance, and somehow it all makes sense when the groove hits. But at the end of the day it’s just a silly little tune that makes your feet move and your head shake.

“A narcissist doesn’t think they’re a narcissist, so I think I’m safe. Tactical Error is a bit of a riff on those manipulative traits we pick up on in ourselves. They can lead to a lot of hurt and heartbreak, so this track to me is all about reminding yourself not to repeat mistakes. Learn from your stuff ups and keep trying to be a better person than yesterday.” – Josh Morgan, FIST
